Spencer Windell Whitley

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Spencer Windell Whitley, age 80, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC.He was born March 15, 1931 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Crayton Jerome Whitley and Pansy Robertson Whitley. Spencer was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt. #4 #1 Weave Room for an over all time of 46 years until his retirement. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he and his wife helped with the building of the church. Spencer was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He is remembered for his interest in gardening and spending quality time with his family especially his grandchildren.In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa A. Whitley and three brothers.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011 at Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Dr. R.J. Hammond and Rev. Marty Payton. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home.Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Helen Sanders Whitley; a son, Danny S. Whitley & wife, Patty of Kannapolis, NC; three grandchildren, Anna Pletcher & husband, Matt of Landis, NC, Nathan Whitley & wife, Kayla of Kannapolis, NC, and Kaylyn Whitley of the home; two great-grandchildren, Jayden Pletcher and Aubrey Whitley; and one brother, Robert (Doc) Whitley & wife, LaDonna of Kannapolis, NC.Memorials may be made to Charity Baptist Church, 2420 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.On-line condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
