Stacey Lanea Mills

Our sweet daughter, Stacey Lanea Mills, age 36 of Kannapolis NC, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, February 10, 2024, after a life-long battle with Cerebral Palsy and Grand Mal seizure disorder.  Stacey was born in Iredell County on May 24, 1987, daughter of Joel Aundra Mills and Lisa Benoist Mills.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Joe Lee Mills and her maternal grandmother Joyce Hager Benoist.  She is survived by her father, Joel Aundrea Mills, her stepmother and caregiver, Brandy Plott James, both of the home, her mother Lisa Benoist Mills, sisters Jamie Lynn Wideman (Kevin), Mandy Mills Rappe (BJ) and Kelly Mills Gonzalez (Eder), brothers Joe Alan Mills (Kyndoll) and Joel Alan Mills, stepsisters Bailey Baucom and Gracie James, grandmother Bernice Gulledge Mills Bose (Tom), and nieces and nephews Addison and Cullen Rippy, Landon and Charlotte Rappe, Athena and Camilla Gonzalez and Aislinn (Bean) Young.

Stacey’s body was not made for this earth, yet her spirit will always be with us.  She was the most beautiful of souls, enduring so much so innocently.  She faced many challenges due to her diagnosis, but she somehow still “ran the race” and “fought the fight” from a body that was broken from the beginning.

She enjoyed rides in the “old truck” and stopping for a milkshake on the way home.  Music was her passion and even being non-verbal could not stop her from singing like an angel.  Her song on earth has ended but her melody in Heaven has just begun.  A life that touches others goes on forever.

We will deeply miss our precious angel who enriched and made our lives better.  She has shed her earthly pain, today and forever she flies free.

A funeral service to celebrate Stacey’s life will be held at Whitley’s Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m.  Friday, February 16, 2024 with Rev. Jerry McCall officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
