Obituary: Stella Avis Tripp Lomas Planck, 84, of Concord went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House, following a period of declining health. Stella was born April 8, 1931 in Bristol County, Mass. a daughter of the late Ellis R. and Susan Brooks Smith Tripp. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Clifford Lomas. She was a graduate of the Union Hospital School of Nursing in Fall River, Mass. She had served as an R.N. at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, Mass for 35 years. She later moved to this area in 1987. She enjoyed traveling, including sailing on cruise ships, and going on bus tours. She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club. Stella also served as a volunteer at the former CMC-Northeast Medical Center in Concord, NC. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Mike Hubbard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Survivors include her husband of 14 years, John Ken Planck of Concord , two daughters, Diane Viera and husband Harold of Concord, Susan E. Machado and husband Charles of Mt. Pleasant, one son, David Lomas and wife Christine of Concord, one sister, Louise Fisk of Florida, one step son, William Planck of Elmira, NY, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family requests that In Lieu of Flowers, memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC, 28081.
