Stella A. Stirewalt
On Monday, September 2, 2019, Mrs. Stella Ard Stirewalt passed away at Tucker Hospice House at the age of 89. Her funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Friday, September 6, at Second Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis, officiated by Rev. Farrar Griggs. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park following the service.
Stella was born on April 29, 1930, in Candor, NC to the late Melton and Maie Ard. Concord became Stella’s home in 1957, but she always cherished memories of her childhood in Montgomery County with her parents and two sisters, Janie Freeman and Jessie Lemonds, now deceased.
Stella was also preceded in death by her husband Homer D. Stirewalt (Bill), infant daughter, Rhonda Moore, and grandson, Shaun Christy.
After retirement from Collins & Aikman – Mastercraft, Stella enjoyed volunteering for many years with Cooperative Christian Ministry and Cabarrus Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis.
Stella is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Chris Christy; grandchildren, Christina Hester (James), Bryan Christy, Lee Katherine Christy, and Thomas Christy (Liza); great-grandchildren, Landon Hester, Eli Hester; nieces and nephews, Winnie Steed, Mary Ann Hogan, Larry Lemonds, Harvey Lemonds, Shirley McKenzie, James Freeman, David Freeman, and Brenda Dunn; and loving and always faithful friend, “our” Marilyn Upright.
The family would like to thank Stella’s special and most recent caregivers and friends for their kindness and support: Dr. Medhat Takla, Dr. Jan Van Ravesteyn, Nicole Yow, Anita Holland, Chenoa Jones, Teresa Morris, Bel Ray, Atrium Health Cabarrus ACCU nurses and staff, and Tucker Hospice House.
