Stephen Nichols

Obituary: Stephen Franklin Nichols, age 94, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Big Elm Nursing Center, Kannapolis, NC after a lengthy illness. He was born July 25, 1918 in Johnston County, NC, the son of the late Bennie Franklin Nichols and Minnie Sellers Nichols. Steve had lived in this area since 1945. Steve was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #1, #6 Slasher Room for 37 years until his retirement in 1982. Until poor health he was an active member of Central Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, on the board of trustees, and other phases of church activities. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He is fondly remembered for his love of bird hunting in his earlier years. In addition to his parents she is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Martha Lamm Nichols who died in 1997; and three sisters. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 21, 2012 at Central Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Curtis Parker. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 1:00 P.M. Friday at the church prior to the service. The remainder of the time the family will be at the residence. Survivors include his 2nd wife, Juanita Helms Nichols; one son, Stephen A. Nichols & wife, Vickie of Salisbury, NC; four grandchildren, Wendy Davis & husband, David of Polkton, NC, Craig Nichols & wife, Amber of China Grove, NC, Kieran and Kaitlin Davis of Polkton, NC, Zoey and Zander Nichols of China Grove, NC, and one sister, Inez Kepler of Faith, NC; three stepchildren, four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 1812 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Visitation: 11:30 to 1:00 P.M. Friday at the church prior to the service.

Service: 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 21, 2012 at Central Baptist Church.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
