Steve Monroe O'Neal

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Steve Monroe O'Neal, age 50, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Kannapolis Village, Kannapolis, NC after an extended illness. He was born July 19, 1958 in Darlington County, SC, the son of the late Evander O'Neal and Verlie Johnson O'Neal. He was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 Finishing Dept. In later years he was self-employed in the savage business. He also worked part-time in maintenance at Shadybrook Elementary School. He enjoyed oil paintings as a hobby and many arts & crafts including birdhouses. He was viewed by his family as a loving, caring brother. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Ann O'Neal who had lived in Hartsville, SC and Betty LouAnn O'Neal Critchlow who had lived in Sumter, SC; and a brother, Tommy Payton O'Neal who had lived in Hartsville, SC. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Unity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Tommy Wensil. Burial will be in South Carolina at a later date. The family will receive friends after the service. Survivors include his children, Matthew J. O'Neal of Salisbury, NC and Ashley O'Neal of Reockwell, NC; his brothers & sisters, William O'Neal and David O'Neal, both of Kannapolis, NC, Cindy Sartain of Concord, NC, Billy O'Neal of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Elaine Tucker of Oakboro, NC, Janice O'Neal of Locust, NC, Lindell Troutman of Salisbury, NC, Linda Faye Arant of Lexington, SC, and Jamie Carl O'Neal of Sumter, SC; a large number of nieces & nephews.
