Obituary: Steven Lane Penninger, 44, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from his residence. He had been in declining health but death was unexpected. Steven was born December 14, 1974 in Cabarrus County to the late Barbara Suzanna Irby Finley and Bobby Lane Penninger of Fort Mill, SC He had been employed at Freightliner for twenty years as an offline mechanic until his retirement due to ill health. He later worked for Pizza Hut in China Grove. Stephen was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Steve enjoyed deer hunting as long as his health permitted. His family remembers him as a loving son and father. He enjoyed making others smile with his sense of humor. Family members left to cherish his memory are his father, and step-mother Bobby and Susan Penninger of Fort Mill, SC. He is also survived by one son, Corey Lane Penninger of Cleveland, grandmother, Hazel Irby of Columbia, MS., cousins, aunts and uncles. He enjoyed two loving canine companions, Peedie and Molly. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Jerry Hagler. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 312 N Eugene St, Greensboro, NC 27401. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Penninger.
