Sybil Barnes (Edwards) Mckinney

Sybil B. Edwards McKinney, age 83, of Kannapolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 16, 2024, from Autumn Care Salisbury after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

A funeral celebrating Sybil’s home-going will be held at Landis Baptist Church at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 25 with Rev. Mike Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 PM until service time.

Sybil was born October 10, 1940, in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late Jessie Brice and Mary Kate Martin Edwards. In addition to her parents, Sybil was preceded in death by her sister Bobbie Kivi and her beloved husband, Max McKinney, who passed December 7, 2023.

Sybil was a 1959 graduate of A. L. Brown High School and a lifelong resident of Kannapolis. She was longtime member of Landis Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ida Hinson Circle and, in earlier years, she was a GA leader.  Sybil retired after 40+ years at Cannon Mills/Pillowtex.

Sybil and Max enjoyed going on many Christian Tours bus trips with friends all over the US and they enjoyed going on cruises.

Sybil cherished making memories and spending time with her family, church family, friends, and neighbors whom she loved dearly. Her favorite place to be was when she was with her family and at her church.  She always put others before herself.

Those whom Sybil leaves behind to cherish her memory include her daughter, Crystal McKinney Moore (Jimmy) of Landis, her grandson, Seth Moore (Valerie) of Kannapolis, and her granddaughter, McKinney Moore Bullard (Tyler) of China Grove. Sybil was blessed with 2 great-grandsons, Brice and Braxton Bullard who are named after Sybil’s father and grandfather, respectively.
