Sylvia Kirkley

Obituary: Mrs. Sylvia Patricia Carpenter Kirkley, age 79 passed away Saturday June 29, 2013 at her home in Kannapolis. She was born on November 30, 1933 in Peachland, (Anson County), North Carolina a daughter of the late Mr. Wilbur Atlas Carpenter and the late Mrs. Nora Elva Horne Carpenter. She graduated from Peachland High School in 1952 and went to Kannapolis to work for Cannon Mills Company and stayed until she retired years later. During that time she met and married Johnny Lee Kirkley of Pageland, S.C., who had come to Kannapolis to work in the mill as well. They got married on December 23, 1955 in Chesterfield , S.C. and he preceded her in death on November 27, 2009. Johnny and Sylvia were also preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Patricia Kirkley on May 22, 1958. Sylvia was also preceded in death by (two) brothers and (six) sisters. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 20, 2013 in the Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Whitley's Funeral Home of Kannapolis is serving the family of Mrs. Kirkley.
