Obituary: China Grove- Sylvia Marie Aldridge Pinyan, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at CHS-Northeast Medical Center. Born November 21, 1934 in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Dewey and Minnie Beck Aldridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy James Pinyan, whom she married March 20, 1953; her son-in-law, Curtis Heyward; a granddaughter, Janie Heyward; and siblings, Guilford Beck, Paul Aldridge, Bill Aldridge and Vivian Diggs. A graduate of China Grove High School, Sylvia retired from Cannon Mills and Pillowtex after more than 30 years of service. A faithful member of South China Grove Baptist Church, she had served as a Sunday School teacher, co-church treasurer, Acteens Director, Crafts Director in VBS, WMU Director, organist/pianist, choir member, she organized the annual Memorial Day flag display for Veterans, as well as other special church events. Mrs. Pinyan was an excellent seamstress, making all three of her daughters' wedding dresses, special quilts (especially the one to be placed on her casket), garment alterations and curtains. She loved gardening, canning and making special holiday crafts for her children and grandchildren. Loving family members include her sons Ronnie Pinyan and wife, Karen of Salisbury, Ricky Pinyan and wife, Debbie of China Grove and Joe Pinyan and wife, Gina of Salisbury; her daughters, Sharon Poole and husband, Jerry of Clayton, Loresa Heyward of Rome, GA, and Shanna Matlock and husband, Randy of Landis; brother Burton Aldridge and wife, Geraldine; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, July 14th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Sylvia's life will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday at South China Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Revs. Tony Wagoner, Ronnie Pinyan and Joyce Miles. Mrs. Pinyan will be laid to rest with her husband in West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to South China Grove Baptist Church, 501 Haney Street, China Grove, NC 28023, or to the donor's choice.
