Tammera Lynn Childers

November 21, 1957 — April 14, 2022

Kannapolis

Tammera “Tammy” Lynn Childers, 64, of Kannapolis went to join her family in heaven Thursday, April 14th 2022 after a brief battle with pneumonia at Atrium Cabarrus Hospital in Concord.

Tammy was born November 21st 1957 at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in Concord to the late Charles and Viola Childers. She moved back to Concord in 1972 after her father retired from the Airforce and she graduated from Concord High School in 1976. Throughout her life, Tammy worked at Wooten Jewelers, Concord National Bank, Cabarrus Savings Bank, Cabarrus County Boys and Girls Club, and Camp Spencer as the arts and crafts teacher. She retired last year as a CNA and private caregiver to the elderly.

Tammy had a passion for people. She had a special place in her heart for taking care of the elderly and children in particular. Her initials were “TLC” which stands for tender loving care. That is what she gave wholeheartedly to each and every person she cared for. Tammy never met a stranger. Once you met her, you were her friend and she treated you with as much generosity and compassion as she could. If she loved you, you knew it because she never missed an opportunity to show her love. Most of all, she adored children. Tammy was never able to have children of her own, but she treated every child she met with so much love and they all loved her back just as much. She had a special talent for being able to see through the eyes of a child. Her vivid imagination and creativity allowed her to not only understand them, but help them have as much fun in her presence as possible. Her energy and zest for life was contagious to everyone. When she was around, it was hard not to smile and feel better about life.

Tammy also had a great love for traveling and never turned down an adventure, especially with her friends and family. Her travels included but were not limited to: Mexico, Paris, Alabama, North Carolina beaches and lakes, Georgia, Florida, and New England. Her most favorite place to travel was the mountains of Colorado and Tennessee. In addition, Tammy thoroughly enjoyed shopping and decorating. She was a collector of many things and always wanted to share the happiness and beauty of her unique finds. Not only did she shop for herself, she always had others in mind as well.. Anyone who knew her knew that you couldn't leave her house without her giving you a souvenir to take with you.

Tammy is preceded in death by her father Charles Childers Jr., mother Minnie Viola Childers (Carriker), and sister Pam Bluto. She is survived by her other sister Susan Haigler, Dean, 1 nephew Adam Haigler and 3 nieces Leah Haigler Mills, Mandy Haigler Ferre, and Brittany Haigler. She also has 3 great nieces Caitlyn, Paisley, and Kinsley Mills, and 2 great nephews Jackson and Elliot Ferre. Additionally, 2 other little boys, Layton Cooley and Kam Rowlette held special places in her heart. Many thanks are given to her very special, lifelong best friends Ann Fink and Chrystal Stiller, as well as cousin Kathy Faggart, for helping Susan keep a 24 hour vigil with Tammy so she would never be left alone at the hospital.

Tammy had a beautiful mind, a beautiful heart and a beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is assisting the family. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
