Obituary: Taska Sikes Smith , 76, of Mooresville, formerly of Kannapolis, died Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Genesis Healthcare in Mooresville, surrounded by family after a period of declining health. A funeral service to celebrate Taska's life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 26th at Whitley's Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:30 to 2:00 PM on Friday April 26th, prior to her funeral. Taska was born June 17, 1942 in Stanly Co., the daughter of the late James Owen and Rachel Lisk Sikes. In addition to her parents, Taska was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Sikes. She grew up in Kannapolis; attending Midway UMC and graduating from A. L. Brown High School in 1960. She attended North State Business College and married Jack Smith. They moved to Charlotte, where they started their family. She worked for DR. Steve Eyler as an optometric assistant until retirement. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Jack Smith of Mooresville, her sons, Mark Smith of Mooresville and Jason Smith of Kannapolis, her daughter in law Melanie Smith of Mooresville her 4 grandchildren; Hunter, Hayley, Dalton and Addison Smith and her Godson, Zach Eyler as well as several nieces and nephews.
