Terry Lee Sawyer

Terry Lee Sawyer, 66, of Salisbury, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Terry was born April 20, 1955 in Pamlico County, NC, a son of the late Donnie Curtis Sawyer, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Hunnings Sawyer Ipock.

Terry was a devoted member of Carmel Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for many years, sang in the church choir, and loved his church family. He was affectionately known as the “Candy Man”, always having candy in his pocket for the children and friends at the church.

Terry and his wife enjoyed working as a team, always building or remodeling, and spending time at the coast, fishing every chance they got.

Prior to retirement he was employed by Schneider Electric Company for 15 years. He was a veteran having served with the US Navy during the Vietnam Era.

There will be a graveside service for Terry at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove conducted by Pastor Brian Smith. Military graveside rites will be afforded by the US Navy and the Rowan County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

Family members surviving Terry include his wife of 35 years, Elizabeth Lynn Burris Sawyer of the home, their son Jeremy Sawyer of Salisbury, and his father-in-law & mother-in-law Herbert and Barbara Burris. Being born into a family of 11 siblings, he is also survived by brothers, sisters, & many nieces and nephews.
