Texas Brown Melton

Obituary: Texas Brown Melton, 84, of Kannapolis died Wednesday Dec. 9, 2009 at Transitional Health Services. She was born June 8, 1925 in Ashe County, the daughter of the late Thomas and Elena Hawkins Brown. She had formerly worked at Cannon Mills and at various hosiery mills in the area. Funeral services will be 3:30 PM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Randall Ritchie. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 Friday at Whitley's prior to the service. At other times they will be at the daughter's home, 2650 Sycamore Street, Concord, NC. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Miller and husband Donald of Concord, her son Wade Lee Melton Jr. and wife Marie of Cleveland, Tn., five grandchildren: Tracey Johnson, Chris Miller, Jason Miller, Josh Melton and David Melton, 10 great-grandchildren, two brothers: Dean Brown of Unionville, Tn. and Bob Brown of Elkton, Md., and three sisters: Paralea Toliver of Todd, Shelby Testerman of Winston-Salem and Patsy Blevins of Lansing.
