Obituary: Thomas Marion Broome, age 80, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after months of a declining illness. He was born October 30, 1934 in Iredell County, NC, the son of the late Dewey Roy Broome and Eutha Mahala Benfield Broome. Tom served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in the Philippines. He was an avid camper and loved fishing. He was of the Baptist faith and was baptized at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC and was a former Boy Scout member at that troop. Tom drove a truck for twenty-five years and was owner/operator of his own truck and retired in 1998. He was also a member of the Kannapolis Moose Lodge #1722; Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge # 695; and the Cabarrus Shrine Club. In addition his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Thomas Ralph Broom in 1984. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Roger Bostic. Burial will follow at Willow Valley Cemetery, Mooresville, NC with military rites by the Iredell County Veterans Honor Guard followed by Masonic rites by the Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Thelma McGee Broome; two sisters, Bobbie J. Suddeth and Ruda Broome Clark, both of China Grove, NC; a grandson, Gary Thomas Broome of China Grove, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph Thomas Broome, Emilia Grace Broome, and Miranda Nicole Broome.
