Obituary: Thomas Sidney Church, age 89, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a serious illness of 1 week. He had lived most of his life on Arbor Avenue in Kannapolis. He was born August 11, 1920 in Wilkes County, NC, the son of the late Thomas Calloway Church and Anne Griffin Church. Tom was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 #7 Spinning Room for 44 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Baptist faith. His family has reflected on the fact that he passed away on Earth Day having known him to be a farmer and connected to the earth all of his life. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Bessie Benfield Church who died in 2003; his son, Billy Sidney Church who died in 2007; a great-grandson, Zander Lane Miller; and three brothers and five sisters. The funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. John Boyd, pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church, Concord, NC. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his daughter, Sheila Church Pendleton & husband, John of Concord, NC; his grandchildren, Jodie Pendleton Hott & husband, Jon, John Thomas Pendleton, David and Sissy Church, Donna and Eric Wilson, and Jason and Donna Church; his great-grandchildren, Bryana Hott and Savannah Hott, Ashley Miller, Jonathan Wilson, Danielle Church and Gracie Church.
