Obituary: Thomas "Tom" Grady Dendy, 86, of Kannapolis went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 26, 2017 from the Tucker Hospice House. A devoted Christian, he was a Godly example to his family and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Tom was born April 26, 1931, a son of the late William Steiner Dendy and Ethel Atwood Dendy. Tom was the former owner of Dendy Tire Sales in Salisbury and also worked at Whitley's Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church and a former member of Jackson Park Baptist Church. He had served as a deacon and on various committees at both churches. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. A service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Joe Smith and Rev. J.R. Beaver. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Whitley's. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bennie Baucom Dendy, children, Tommy Dendy (Sherry) of Kannapolis, Paula Altomare (Philip) of Concord, grandchildren, Brent Dendy (Lauren) of Salisbury, Andrew Altomare of Kannapolis, great grandchildren, Noah and Ellison Dendy, sisters, Merle Sloan, Joyce Lowery and Leslie Patton (Hugh Lee) all of Kannapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Franklin Heights Baptist Church, 526 Wright Ave., Kannapolis, NC 28083 and/or Jackson Park Baptist Church, 1005 Jackson Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
