Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Thomas Dewey Gandy, Sr., age 70, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a short illness of heart failure. He was born August 11, 1944 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Robert Wesley Gandy and Nettie Brown Williams. Dewey was employed as director of internal auditing with Pic-N-Pay Shoes, Inc. for thirty-nine years. He was also an active member of Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church, Kannapolis, NC where he served as head usher for many years. He spent his retirement years enjoying sports like playing golf, bowling, and interacting with social media especially with his many extended friendships made throughout the United States on Facebook. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Thomas Dewey Gandy, Jr.; and a sister, Ethel Foster. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jimmy Barnhill. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church after the memorial service. Survivors include his children, Len Gandy of Kannapolis, NC; Suzanne G. (Ben) Wood of Concord, NC; Catherine G. Benson of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Brooke Gandy, Emily Gandy, Collin Wood, Austin Bumgardner, and Athena Donahue; one brother, Ray (Elsie) Gandy of Concord, NC; and a sister, Mary Ann Rinehardt of Concord, NC; ex-wife and loving friend, Deborah Hayden of Kannapolis, NC. Memorials may be made to Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1008 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
