Obituary: Thomas Dewey Gandy, Jr., 43 of Concord died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at his residence. Death was unexpected. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Jackson Park Pentecostal Church, 1008 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081 conducted by Rev. Jimmy Barnhill. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary following the memorial service.Thomas was born November 19, 1967 in Mecklenburg County, NC a son of Thomas Dewey Gandy, Sr. of Kannapolis and the late Betty Catherine Bost Gandy. Thomas was employed as a mechanic and truck driver with Terminal Trucking Company. He loved NASCAR, outdoors living and enjoyed fishing. He was an avid animal lover. Known as a Christian Man of Faith he was famous for his contagious laugh. Survivors in addition to his father include his daughter, Athena Donahue of Nakima, NC, two sisters, Cathy Benson and husband Tom of Charlotte, Suzanne Gandy Wood and husband Ben of Concord and one brother, Leonard Gandy of Kannapolis. Magnificent nephews and nieces include Collin Benjamin Wood, Austin Bumgardner, and Brooke and Emily Gandy, twin nieces of Deland, Fla. He is also survived by longtime family friend, Deborah Hayden.Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Cabarrus County, 2010 Wilshire Court, SW, Concord, NC 28025.Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Gandy.
