Obituary: Thomas Dobson "Dobbie" McCarn, 85, of Kannapolis died Friday, September 19, 2014 at CMC-NE after a period of declining health. His funeral service will be held at Jackson Park United Methodist Church at 2:30 PM on Monday Sept. 22 with Rev. Neal Brower officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:30 prior to the funeral, at other times they will be at the residence. Thomas was born September 20, 1928 in Rowan Co., a son of the late Richard McCarn, Sr. and Alma Neill McCarn. Thomas was a lifelong area resident and veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He moved here from Salisbury in 1961. Thomas was a Member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church and the Dan Boone and Elmer Poole Sunday School Class. He worked for Duke Power in Salisbury and Kannapolis until he retired in 1984. He then worked part-time for Hinson Electric for 14 years until retiring again. In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, Richard McCarn, Jr., his sister, Evelyn M. Stancil and his brother, T. C. Neill. Thomas was survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Hess McCarn, his 2 sons, Randy Carlton McCarn (Brenda) of Kannapolis and Steven Thomas McCarn (Jackie) of Yadkinville and his 2 grandchildren, Matthew McCarn (Karen) and Allison McCarn(Alessio Deiana) and 1 Great-granddaughter.
