Obituary: Thomas Ray Pletcher, 76, of Kannapolis passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016. He was born October 29, 1939 in Fayette County, Pa., the son of the late Ray and Eleanor Glotfelty Pletcher. He was preceded in death by a son, Allan Pletcher on Jan. 4, 2010. Thomas was retired from the US Navy after serving 22 years from 1957-1979. After retiring from the US Navy, he worked at Moore's Building Supply in Virginia Beach, Prudential Life Insurance in Uniontown, Pa., Bauer Homes Center in Uniontown, Pa., and Carolina Interiors in Kannapolis. Thomas was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church where he was a former choir member and Sunday school teacher. He also was involved with Cabarrus Meals on Wheels as well as the Piedmont Singing Men Group. He was a volunteer for the N.C. Train Association, a Mason and loved to travel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Cheryl Skinner. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Pletcher, daughter, Melissa Pletcher of Concord, grandchildren, Matthew Pletcher (Anna) of Landis, Lauren Winslow (Nathaniel) of Bremerton, Wa., great grandchild , Jayden Pletcher, two sisters, Jackie Register of Ormond Beach, Fl., Kathy Fullem (Terry) of Mill Run, Pa., and many nieces , nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
