Thomas Gerald Steen, 77 years old, of Kannapolis, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 15, 2023, at Tucker Hospice House.
Thomas was born on August 16, 1945, in Rowan County to the late Lee and Leona Walden Steen.
Thomas proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Thomas was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School in 1964. He spent his career working as a truck driver for Watkins Motor Lines for 30 years. In his free time, he enjoyed going dancing at the Cabarrus County Senior Center with his wife and attending the mini reunions for the A. L. Brown Class of 1964. Thomas also loved to bass fish and surf fish at the Outer Banks.
Thomas was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Edna Lee Steen in 2022. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tracey S. Wilansky and her fiancé Keith McRae and Donna S. Anderson and her husband Danny; his grandchildren, Blair Wagner and her husband Allen, Katie Wilansky, Evan Anderson and his wife Nayla and Michael Wilansky; and his great grandchildren, Colt Wagner, Alanna Wagner, and Emersyn Wagner and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 12-2pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2pm in Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Sloop and Rev. Demps Overcash officiating. The burial will follow with military honors at Carolina Memorial Park.
