Thomas “Tom” Jackson Nash, 91, of China Grove, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5 at his home surrounded by his family after three weeks of declining health.
Tom was born in Athens, Georgia to James and Ruth Bradley Nash but as a child his family relocated to Kannapolis. He graduated from Cannon High School in 1949. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served in the Korean War. When his tour of duty was finished he worked for Johnson Motor Lines in Charlotte for 23 years, then later worked for Abex Industries in Salisbury, until his retirement in 1996.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was so excited when he became a great grandfather in 2017 to his namesake, Nash Earnhardt. He enjoyed cheering for his favorite sports teams the Duke Blue Devils and Atlanta Braves, as well as watching NASCAR, Golf and Western shows. Tom also enjoyed tending to his garden, yard, and flowers. He often went around town visiting the VFW, the Carriage Room but mainly could be found at his favorite hangout, Sandy Ridge Service, where he has been a fixture for over 50 years. Tom never met a stranger and was truly liked by everyone.
Tom was the last living survivor of 10 siblings. Family members that preceded him in death were sisters; Sarah Morris, Ann Riddle, Ola Mae Chastain, Ophelia Corriher, Betty Little, Beulah Hampton and brothers; James Nash, Dorsey Nash and Carter Nash. As well as nephews; Tommy Morris, Frosty Riddle, Reid Hampton and Lamar Corriher.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carolyn Fowler Nash, daughter, Amy Hubbard and husband Kirk, three grandchildren; Sarah Earnhardt (Danny Jr), Parker Hubbard (Kristen Stafford), and Caroline Hubbard (Patrick Hampton) and two great grandsons; Nash and Miles Earnhardt. As well as a special nephew, Terry Morris and numerous other nieces and nephews. Tom is also survived by his best friend of over forty years, George Starnes.
His family will receive friends on Monday, May 8 from 6-8 at Whitley's Funeral Home. At the request of Tom there will be no funeral.

The family would like to thank, Dr. Emmady, Dr. Singh, the Nurses and all the staff on the Neurosciences Unit at Atrium Health Cabarrus for his excellent health care during his admission.
