Obituary: At approximately 10:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 24, 2013, Thurman Wood went home to be with Jesus. Born August 5, 1927 in Madison County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Charlie Garnet Wood and Azzie Lee Chastain Wood. Thurman was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a message control chief at Ft. McPherson, Georgia leaving with an honorary discharge. Educated in the Cabarrus County Schools, he loved his garden and all people. He was a minister, a teacher of the Word, and helped launch and promote many ministries and tent revivals in the 1950's and 60's. Above all, he loved Jesus and spent his life helping others know God and how to trust him. He was a Godly man among men and highly respected. In addition to his parents he has joined the love of his life, Phyllis, their little son, Thurman Allen, and his brothers, Gartrell Wood, Hubert Wood, and their sister, Garnell in Heaven. They are survived by their loving daughter, Cathy and son-in-law, Barry Beaver of Kannapolis, NC; his son, Rev. Jeff Wood and wife, Etta of Surfside Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Natalie Pangalos of Matthews, NC, Leslie Beaver of Kannapolis, NC, Jeffrey Adam Wood and Miranda Mincey of Surfside Beach, SC; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ann Wood Tucker of Kannapolis, NC and Retha Mae Daniel of Springhill, FL. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by his son, Rev. Jeff Wood, Dr. Tom Snipes, Rev. Joseph Barnette, and his daughter, Cathy Beaver. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M.
