Timothy Wayne Holleman, 75, of Kannapolis, formerly of Durham, peacefully passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at his home.
Tim was born in Durham, January 27, 1949, to the late Alvin Theophilus Holleman Sr. and Alma Hunter Dickerson Holleman. He fondly remembered his childhood alongside his four siblings and many friends playing childhood games such as marbles, baseball, basketball, selling concessions at Duke University so he could watch college football games, and enjoying his time at the Red Shield Boys' Club.
As a child, Tim made the most important decision of his life: to accept and follow Jesus Christ as his Savior. This decision directed the remainder of his life as he served at home, church, work and in the community. The second most important decision Tim made was to marry his youth’s sweetheart, Brenda. From their faithful, abiding love for one another for 54 years, God blessed Tim and Brenda with a loving family. As a college student, he began teaching Bible Study and would reach all ages with God’s Word until his diagnosis with Primary Progressive Aphasia. Jesus Christ and his family were his priorities.
He was a graduate of Durham High School, Class of 1967, and North Carolina State University, Class of 1971, where he studied Electrical Engineering. He retired in 2016 after 48 years with Duke Energy having served the communities of Durham, Gastonia, Kannapolis, Burlington, Charlotte, Salisbury and Greer, SC. During those years Tim enjoyed relationships with many community friends through Lions Club, Rotary Club, United Way, Cabarrus Arts Council and the Chamber of Commerce. In his business and civic service, he was notably industrious and energetic. But he also directed this enthusiasm towards all facets of his life.
He was in awe of God’s creation and valued the gift of life, something he impressed upon his children and grandchildren. At home, he used his talents in gardening, watercolor painting, caring for his many beloved pets over the years, and engaging alongside his daughters in their interests and activities at home and at their schools. In his church community, he not only served in layperson ministries and as a deacon but also enjoyed participating in church choirs and dramas, and fellowshipping through church league basketball and softball. He loved times spent in the mountains and at the beach with family and friends. Tim was blessed with many talents and capabilities but was always interested in what other people were doing in their lives. Whatever he was doing, he wanted to “bring others along” with him for the fun and challenge.
Those left to cherish his memory, his wife of 54 years and the adored mother of his six daughters, Brenda Kerr Holleman;
his six daughters; Karen Maclaga (John), Emily Rehder (Chad), Erin Robertson (Brad), Betsy Alley (Corey), Leslie Clark (Brandon), Leah Holleman;
