Obituary: Tommie Jo Clark Campbell, 82, of Concord died Thursday, July 26, 2018 at her home after a brief illness. Her funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 28 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 2:00 PM on Saturday, prior to her funeral. Tommie was born September 11, 1935 in Lexington, GA., a daughter of the late Thomas and Gladys Clark. She was a longtime area resident, graduating from A. L. Brown High school in its first graduating class. Tommie worked for many years at Cannon Mills as a supervisor in the inventory control department, teaching the necessary computer skills to those who worked for her. She was an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church until her health prevented her participation. Tommie will always be remembered as a strong-willed, independent woman, an avid artist and supportive nurturing aunt, who enjoyed attending the sporting events of her "grandchildren". Tommie and Donald had no biological children of their own so they treated their nieces and nephews as their own. They loved them and were loved by them in return. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Tommie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Campbell, her brothers, Dorsey, Parks, Curtis and Bobby Clark, her sisters, Myrtle Atwell and Christene Wood and her niece, Billie Galloway. Survivors include her sister Doris Hurst of Kannapolis; nieces that called her "Aunt Mommy" are Candy Smith (John) of Davidson and Penny Hurst of Thomasville, grand-nieces and nephews that called her "Mammaw" are Dustin Smith (Megan Hege), Cody Smith, Todd, Amber and Brian Widenhouse and many other loving nieces and nephews. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com and memorial donations can be made to Lakeview Baptist Church, 2532 Lane St. Kannapolis, NC 28083 for their future youth ministries.
