Obituary: Tommy Davidson, 79, of China Grove, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015. He was born December 20, 1935 in Chesterfield County SC, to the late David Thomas Davidson and Willie Mary Mills Davidson. Tommy enlisted in the Army National Guard at the age of 15 and continued his military service with the Navy (4 years) and Air Force (16 years). Tommy served on six continents with combat duty in Korea and Vietnam. After his military retirement, he received an associate's degree from RCCC and worked in various grocery stores. His community involvement included seven years of service as a Master Gardener and seven years as a V.A. volunteer. Tommy also served diligently at First United Methodist Church of Landis as long as he was able. He was a beloved husband, father and Papa who will be greatly missed. His unique sense of humor brought joy to all who loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Davidson on May 4, 2011 and his sister Mildred Scercy. Those left to cherish his memory, one son, Marty Davidson and wife Julie of Summerfield, NC, one daughter, Julia Davidson Merrick of Salisbury, four grandchildren: Will Merrick, Hannah Davidson, Catherine Davidson, and Caroline Merrick, and one sister Gloria Cook. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 6, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Landis conducted by Rev. Adam Love. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. A private interment will be at Salisbury National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Landis, 209 East Mill Street, Landis, NC 28088. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the Davidson Family.
