Obituary: Tommy Jene Freeman, 76, of Mooresville, NC went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House following declining health for seven years with dementia. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 20, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Steve Wilson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veteran's Honor Guard. Jene was born March 29, 1938 in Madison County, Ga. a son of the late Thomas and Reather Thomason Freeman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Fish. He was a 1956 graduate of Landis High School where he was captain of the football team. Jene was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea. He was a superintendent at Cannon Mills, retiring in 2002 with 45 years of service. He later was owner/operator of Freeman Realty and a contractor. He also was an avid and pro fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Billie Marie Merritt Freeman of the Home, two sons, Monty E. Freeman of Rockwell, and Tony L. Freeman of Salisbury. One daughter, Gina Anne Freeman of Kannapolis, step-children; Tim Sweatte of Florida, Sherry Petti of Lexington, Amber Hordos of Florida, and Deborah Sweatte of Salisbury. Two brothers, Jerry Freeman (Rickie) of Mooresville, and Butch Freeman (Chris) of Clover, SC. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. The family requests that in Lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
