Obituary: Tony Sherman McCain, 68, of China Grove went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Transitional Health Care following a period of declining health. Tony was born May 20, 1947 in Rowan County, NC a son of the late Sherman Odell McCain and Wilma Clinton Cooper McCain. He was a 1965 graduate of South Rowan High School. He was of the Baptist Faith. Tony retired in 2000 from Salisbury Fire Dept. as a Battalion Chief with 20 years of service. He also was a carpenter all his life, building houses and working in his carpentry shop. He also enjoyed watching hummingbirds, attending the Kannapolis cruise-ins, camping and spending time with his grandsons. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Sunday prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carolyn Beaver McCain, two daughters, Denise McCain Fink (Doug) of Kannapolis and Dana McCain Helms of China Grove. Three grandchildren; Nathaniel Sexton, Nicholas Sexton, and Austin Helms, one step-grandchild; Christopher Fink, and a brother, Lonnie McCain (Melbia) of Concord.
