Obituary: Ms. Tonyi Lynn Laws, 61 and more affectionately known as "Goldie", peacefully passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 4, 2018 at Carolinas Healthcare System Northeast, following a period of declining health. Born July 30, 1956, in Baltimore City, Maryland, Goldie was a daughter of the late George Sr. & Marie (Campbell) Porupsky of Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother George Porupsky Jr. Goldie had a robust sense of humor, an infectious laugh, was a lover of people (never met a stranger) and a surrogate mother to many, as well as an artistic, creative woman of many colors and depths. She lived all over the country, as a cosmetologist and a homemaker, in places like Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, Hawaii, North Carolina-Camp Lejeune, before ultimately spending her final days in the Concord/Kannapolis area where she worked for several years in general services for Cabarrus County. A civil rights enthusiast with a stubborn resolve for racial equality, and a lover of the Lord, Goldie was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Family members left to cherish her memories include her sister, Deborah Santucci of Pennsylvania; her brother Alfred Misterka, Jr. of Maryland; her five children, Leialoha Autry (Jice) of Eden, NC, Tyrone D. Laws (Suzette) of Nashville, TN, Cedric M. Laws (Mylene) of Kannapolis, NC, Lamarie Austin-Stripling (Tory) of Concord, NC, and Lakamar Austin of Charlotte, NC, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, April 9th, at 11:00am at Whitley's Funeral Home. Memorial services will immediately follow at 12:00pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Minister Dorian Saunders.
