Obituary: Midland, NC Travis Harris Makin, 38, of Midland died Saturday, April 2, 2011 at CMC-Northeast, Concord following a short illness. He was born June 11, 1972 in Lyon County, Kansas son of Gayle Leann Phillips Pittman of Midland and the late Teryl Harris Makin. Travis played football for Northwest Cabarrus High School and was an avid fan of the Duke Blue Devils. He enjoyed NASCAR. Travis was a 21 year closed head injury survivor. Memorial Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Roger Bostic. Inurnment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Tuesday prior to the memorial service. At other times they will be at the residence. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Concord Brain/ Spinal Cord Injury Support Group. He is survived by his Mother: Gayle P. Pittman and Husband Jessie E. Pittman of the Home, five sisters, Deanna Makin of Wichita, Kansas, Angie Weaver and husband Danny of China Grove, Monica Brunns and Rhonda Hatley and husband Van all of Salisbury and Robin King of China Grove. Maternal grandmother: Juanita Phillips of the Home and Paternal grandparents, E.J. and Joyce Colglazier of Emporia, Kansas. He is also survived by aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. The family asks that in Lieu of Flowers, memorials be made to Hinds Feet Farm, 1465 Black Farms Road, Huntersville, NC 28078 or to the Brain Injury Association of NC, 2113 Cameron Street, #242, Raleigh, NC 27605-1374.
