Troy Darnell

Obituary: Troy L. Darnell, 86, of Harrisburg, formerly of Memphis TN, died Monday, January 2, 2017 at PruittHealth - Town Center after a period of declining health. A memorial service will be held at Providence Baptist Church, Harrisburg at 11:00 AM Friday, January 6 with Rev. Rody Carland officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church after the service. Private interment will follow at a later date. Troy was born January 25, 1930 in Memphis TN, a son of the late Hosie and Nancy Taylor Darnell. Troy joined the US Marine Corps in 1946, and was discharged 6 months later because he was only 16 years old. When he turned 17, Troy joined the US Army Airforce with parental consent. When the Army and Air Force became separate military branches, he stayed in the Army, serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired after 20 years of military service and went to work as a Company Rep. for Subaru. Most recently Troy was active with the Cabarrus County senior services, helping distribute food in the Harrisburg community. He was a loving and devoted Husband, father and friend. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Troy was preceded in death by his wife Faye T. Darnell, his daughter Diane Darnell and 3 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his daughter Denise Darnell of Concord and a special niece Jennifer Merritt of Dublin GA. Troy also leaves behind many loving friends.
