Urtrice Faye Carter Cowan

Obituary: Urtrice Faye Carter Cowan, 85 of Kannapolis died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at Five Oaks Manor. She was born August 16, 1926 in Zebulon, NC, the daughter of the late Jeffrey Carmon Carter and Urtrice Brantley Carter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Cowan.Faye and her husband Ray moved to Kannapolis in 1948. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was a field director for Girl Scouts of America and a teacher at Kannapolis City Schools. She was a graduate of Wakelon High School, attended Western Carolina University and also studied at UNCC. She was a graduate of Barber Scotia College. She had a great love for classical music and was considered a child prodigy at the piano. She is survived by her daughter, Suzie Cowan of New York City and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 16, 2011 officiated by Rev. Judy White and Dr. Harold Bales. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday at church prior to the services.Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416 E. First Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
