Velma Agnes Stirewalt Hampton, 98, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 1, 2021.
Velma was born on September 13, 1922 in Faith, NC to the late Will Stirewalt and Cora Bostian Stirewalt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl Hampton; daughter, Caroll Lumsden; grandson, David Beaver; four brothers, and two sisters.
Velma worked as a weaver for Cannon Mills in Weave Room #5 for over 30 years. She was a long-time and faithful member of Landis Baptist Church. Velma loved to spend time outside in her vegetable garden. She also loved gardening flowers. Her favorite flowers were pink and yellow roses. She also enjoyed going fishing at Mountain Island Lake.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jimmy Hampton; grandson, Dennis Beaver; two great-grandchildren, Amber Hoke and Mallori Harrington; and one great-great grandchild Kayden Cline.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow and begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Whitley’s Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Hawkins and Rev. Mike Austin officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Landis Baptist Church, 110 N Kimmons St., Landis, NC 28088.
