Obituary: Velma F. Turner, 87, of Kannapolis went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 21, 2018 after an extended illness. She was born June 7, 1930 in Cabarrus County to Ode and Eva Cagle Fink. Velma was a devoted wife to her husband Gary Turner who preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, and six sisters and two brothers. Velma is survived by her son Derrail Turner and wife Pam of Concord, N.C. and her daughter Paula Wallace of Oakboro, N.C., nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and four sisters. She was a faithful and very active member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed going to yard sales and working in her flower beds and quite times crocheting, and loved reading books. A funeral service honoring Velma's life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Thad Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A. M. until 1:00 P.M. prior to the service.
