Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Vera Wilson Goodnight, 88, died Saturday, June 09, 2012, at Tucker Hospice House of Cabarrus County. She had been seriously ill for one week. She was born October 29, 1923 in Cabarrus County, a daughter of the late A.D. Wilson and Emma Rebecka Bruton Wilson. She was employed at Cannon Mills Plant #1, Wash Cloth Department and then the Finishing Department until her retirement in 1985. She graduated from Landis High School in 1941 and began working in Cannon Mills. She worked a total of 45 years with Cannon Mills Company. She was an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church until she was homebound with Alzheimer's disease. She spent 30 years in the Lakewood Baptist Nursery keeping and teaching small children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John L. Goodnight, her sisters Vae Barnhardt, Miriam Rumsey, Jo Ann Coffey, and two sisters who died in infancy. She is survived by two sons and a daughter in law, John W. Goodnight and Jeff L. Goodnight and wife Patricia Goodnight all of Kannapolis. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Eric Zebulon Goodnight, Bradley Lynn Goodnight and Ashley Nicole Goodnight. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Whitley's Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Dr. Steve Davis and Rev. Josh Hughes. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC with services conducted by Dr. Steve Davis.
