Vera Riley

Obituary: Mrs. Vera P. Riley, 72, of Rockwell, formerly of Charlotte went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 17, 2017. She fought a courageous battle against Alzheimer's disease for nine years. Vera was born March 23, 1946 in Fayetteville, NC at Womack Hospital at Ft. Bragg, a daughter of the late James Howard Pridgen and Naomi McLean Pridgen. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Donny Pridgen. She was a 1964 graduate of Littlefield High School in Robeson County. She was a member of the Tri-County Cowboy Church of Rockwell. Vera was employed with IBM as an executive secretary for 23 years. Thru her work with the retail marketing division of IBM she met many people whom she highly respected including: President Ronald Regan, and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf. She was a strong supporter of President Donald Trump. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083, conducted by Pastor Mike Burkette. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. prior to the service. Family members left to cherish her memory are her husband of 48 years, James Henry Riley of the Home, daughters; Tonya Renee Riley (Van Duncan) of Concord, and Michelle Leigh Griggs (Steve) of Concord, five grandchildren; Sarah Griggs, Kerstin Griggs, Dallas Griggs, Josh Duncan and Caden Duncan. She is also survived by one brother, James Pridgen, and sister-in-law, Sandra Pridgen of Clinton, NC.
