Obituary: Vernard Leslie Gohn KANNAPOLIS - Vernard Leslie Gohn, 90, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House of Kannapolis, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Gohn was born October 4, 1927 in Fairfield, Iowa to the late Oliver and Myra Gohn. Vern was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was an active member of Parkwood Baptist Church in Concord. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Pressley Gohn, and one brother, Howard Gohn. Vern is survived by his wife, Betty Spears Gohn; twin daughters, Kathy Doster and husband Bobby, Jackie Linker and husband Gary; grandchildren, Amy Jung and husband Andy, Kristin Trick and husband Matthew, Meredith Valentine and husband Toss, and Phillip Linker and wife Jera; great grandchildren, Andrew Trick, Anna Trick, Stuart Valentine, Oliver Valentine, Ansley Linker, and Brooklyn Linker; brother, Oliver Gohn, Jr., and sister Barbara Gohn Letts; step-son Mike Spears and wife Janice, step-grandchildren Katie Warner and husband Luke, and Alan Spears. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11 at Parkwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Waters, Rev. Darrell Coble, and Rev. Andy Jung officiating. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
