Vernon Chester Gibson, 74, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Northeast Medical Center surrounded by his loving family following a short illness.
He was born July 27, 1948 in Dauphin Co. Pa. a son of the late Vernon Fitzpatrick and Dorothy Elizabeth Gibson.
Vernon was a Christian and a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was a Patriot, serving three tours of duty in Vietnam with the Marine Corps Vernon later was a supervisor building commercial buildings.
He was very supportive of his family, showing his love by attending all of his daughter's dance recitals and he and his daughter spending the day prior to her wedding by themselves getting ready for the wedding. Vernon dearly loved cowboy boots, hats and tattoos. He really enjoyed going to tattoo conventions with his son. He enjoyed sports, serving as a baseball coach for his son's Little League team, and was an avid Steelers and Patriots Fan..
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Carolina Memorial Park conducted by Pastor James Kuhl. The family will receive friends at Whitley' Funeral Home Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 12:30-1:30 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence of an aunt, Georgia Holmes of Concord.
Loving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 43 years, Vicki Wiles Gibson of the home, one son, Vernon Chad Gibson of Durham, one daughter, Meagan Young and husband Kevin of Kannapolis and one grandson, Keegan Lee Young.
He is also survived by extended family whom he loved very much.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to the Atrium Health Levine Cancer Center, 100 Medical Park Drive Northeast, #110, Concord, NC 28025.
