Obituary: Mr. Vernon Ray Hardin, of China Grove, NC, an Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, who loved fishing passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center North-East, Concord of natural causes. Ray was born September 12, 1931 in Rutherford County, the son of the late John Newberry and Mary Ella Reddick Hardin. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife; Virginia L Hardin, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.Survivors: son, Harald E. Hardin, of Dahlonega, GA , daughter, Joanne (Angie) Bratten of Great Falls, MT, brother, Paul Hardin of Vienna, WV, sisters, Barbara Gibson of Kannapolis, Kathleen Christie of Mooresville, along with ex-wife Charlotte B. Hardin of Oakboro, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visitation: 6-8-p.m. Monday, Jan, 9, 2012. The funeral service will be at 1p.m. Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Wayne J. Miller of Highest Praise Family Worship Center of China Grove and Pastor Doug Hardin of Ashe Co. Burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.
