Obituary: Kannapolis, NC Vickie D. Morris Shumake, 64, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 15, 2012 while surrounded by her family after a 7 year battle with cancer. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 18 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel with Rev. David Simpson and Rev. Carlton Davidson. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Annex Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 17, at other times the family will be at 2620 S. Main St. in Concord at the home of Jeff and Phyllis Cooper. Vickie was born November 24, 1947 in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late Eugene R. and Hilda Litaker Morris. She was a lifelong area resident and graduated from A. L. Brown High School. Vickie worked for Cannon Mills Co. in the plant #1 Sewing Room for over 30 years. She was a member of the Westside Free Will Baptist Church and also attended Branchview First Church of God. She was a big fan of A. L. Brown Football, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Elvis. In addition to her parents, Vickie was preceded in death by a sister, Darolene Goodman, a brother, Randy Morris and her great-granddaughter, Deserai Honeycutt. She is survived by her sons; John Cooper of Kannapolis, Jeff Cooper (Phyllis) of Concord and her daughter, Tina Shumake of Kannapolis. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Jeremy Dixon, Avery Cooper Meagan Shumake and Julian Cooper; her great grandchildren, Julianna, Draelo, Brantley and Carly; her sister, Debbie Tyner and her brother, Jerry Morris, both of Kannapolis.
