Obituary: Violet Thomas was born in Kingston, Jamaica to the proud parents of Granville and Celestine Clare on November 29, 1940. She was one of nine children. Violet came to the United States in November, 1954. She was married to Robert Thomas now deceased and sired three children; Kevin, Dennis and Kyle. She also had a step-son named Robert. Violet worked at City College of the City of New York as an accountant where she worked for over 35 years and retired in December, 2002. Vi, as she was called by many, was a spiritually devoted and kind hearted family member and friend. She enjoyed traveling the world with her sister Emily and various friends as well as entertaining her family and friends in her home. For relaxation Vi enjoyed gardening. Violet was a member of New Star Baptist Church for many years and then became a member of Rising Star Baptist Church both located in Queens, New York until she moved to Kannapolis, North Carolina in 2004. Several years after she joined Rose Hill Baptist Church in Kannapolis where she served on womens' ministery and womens' choir. Violet was loved for her ability to motivate, uplift and love everyone she came in contact with whether family or friend. Violet was preceded in death by three siblings, Gwendolyn Washington, Olive Dalhouse, and Millicent McLean. She leaves behind four children, Kevin Thomas (Rosalyn) of Kannapolis, NC; Robert Thomas of New York; Dennis Thomas (Michelle) of Concord, NC; and Kyle Thomas of New York; five siblings, Bernice Henry of Florida; Orville Clare of New York; Dorothy Richardson of New York; Ina Clare of Georgia; and Emily Clare of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Sheena Thomas, Vanessa Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Keisha Thomas, Brianna Haigler, Dennis Thomas II, Xavier Thomas, Denzel Thomas, Diamond Thomas, Elijah Thomas, and Jeremiah Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Shaniyah Gregory, Kyle Thomas, Jr, Noah Thomas and Kaiden Wright; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.
