Virgil Smith

Obituary: Virgil L. Smith, 76, of Concord, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at his residence following a brief period of declining health. He was a former resident of Charlotte NC, and has resided in the Concord area since 2005. Mr. Smith was born on October 26, 1935 in Charleston County, SC, a son of the late Morris Virgil Holcombe and Bessie Elizabeth Lancaster Smith. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, David R. Smith.He was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High in Charlotte and Kings College. For 27 years Mr. Smith was employed by Associated Grocers Mutual and for 17 years prior to his retirement in 2002 he was employed by Spencer Gifts as a light picking manager. He attended Harvest Community Church in Concord.Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Martha Nance Smith, a son, Fredrick Morris Smith (Tina) and their children Grayson and Devin, a daughter, Sheri Smith Bradford (Britt) and her children Jessica, Sarah and Gabrielle, his mother-in-law, Neelie Nance of Concord, and a brother, Robert (Bob) L. Smith (Evy) of Concord, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Harvest Community Church in Concord with Pastor Jeff Burris officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:30 to 3:00 PM prior to the services. Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte.The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Hospice of Cabarrus County and the members of Harvest Community Church.Family suggests memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Harvest Community Church, 4284 Orphanage Rd. Interment: Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte.
