Obituary: Kannapolis, NC Virginia Cleo Hancock Brooks (May 31, 1933 - May 29, 2015) Virginia Brooks joined the heavenly choir on Friday, May 29. Ginny, an excellent soprano, sang for years at her beloved Parkwood Baptist Church. Ginny suffered a massive stroke on Sunday, May 17. She leaves behind a loving church family as well as her immediate family: husband, Eugene Brooks; daughters Robin Little (Tracy), Ginger Glenn (Doug), & Lanas Calloway (Joe); siblings Linda Staton, Darlene Easley, John Hancock & Jerry Hancock; 4 grandchildren Brandon Glenn (Shannon), Brooks Little (Kara), Jenna Little, & Amanda Glenn; 4 great grandchildren Riley Glenn, Brody Glenn, Brayden Little, & Alexis Davis. She was preceded in death by her mother Trudie Jordan Hancock; father, Harley Maro Hancock; and brother, Harley Lester Hancock. Ginny and Gene were charter members of Parkwood Baptist church founded in 1949 where they both were active in a multitude of roles over their 63 years of marriage. She worked for years in the sewing room at Cannon Mills. She retired in 1995, but continued to keep in touch with the many friends she made there. Ginny and Gene enjoyed frequent trips to their vacation home at Holden Beach. They traveled extensively during their retirement years. A celebration of Ginny's life will be held at Parkwood Baptist Church on Monday, June 1 at 10:00am with Rev. Darrell Coble & Rev. Michael Waters officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 31 from 3-5pm at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkwood Baptist Church iSend fund, 1069 Central Dr., Concord NC, 28027 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis NC. The family would like to thank the nurses in the ICU and the Neurosciences wing at CMC Northeast as well as the staff at Tucker Hospice House for the excellent care she received during her illness.
