Virginia Dare Shuping

Virginia Dare Shuping, 93, of Kannapolis, went to be with her heavenly Father Friday, January 17, 2025. She was born December 19, 1931, in Cabarrus County, to the late Charlie and Ethel Cooper Power.

Virginia married Kenneth Shuping on January 19, 1951. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2011. This Sunday, they would have been married for 74 years.

Virginia worked for Cannon Mill as a timekeeper until she retired at the age of 63. She was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Kannapolis, where she taught Sunday School for 50 years for children then adults.

Virginia enjoyed painting, whether it was with paint, watercolors and even chalk. She loved to cook and bake. After church, she welcomed anyone to come and share time with her and family. Virginia was “service above self” in all ways for everyone. She was the best mother a child could ask for. Virginia loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most important to her was her belief in God and love for Jesus Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Dan (Gina) Shuping of Kannapolis; her daughter, Randy Brown of Ashe County; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Haley) Shuping, Drew (Abby) Shuping, Lauren (Chad) Flack, Joshua Beaver, Christopher (Hillary) Brown and Dave (Morgan) Brown and her 12 great grandchildren, Paxton, Allie, Kade, Lucy, Evan, Lawson, Sawyer, Havilland, Gentry, Channing, London and Laney.

Virginia will lie in state on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Whitley’s Funeral Home at 11:30 AM until the time of service. A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM noon at the funeral home on Sunday with Pastor Allen Reid officiating. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp New Hope and Channing’s Joy Foundation.
