Obituary: Virginia Tyner Campbell, 74, of Kannapolis died at her home Sunday, May 5, 2013 after a period of declining health. Her funeral will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 6 at Lakewood Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Hughes and Rev. Johnny Tyner officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral at other times they will be at her home. Virginia was born May 2, 1939 in Hartsville, SC; the oldest daughter of the late Willie and Eva Dixon Tyner. She was a longtime area resident and active member of Lakewood Baptist Church especially in the children's Department. Virginia was also a Girl Scout Leader for several years and will always be remembered for her love of children. In addition to her parents, Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Campbell in 1997 and her sister, Cathy Kirkman in 2012. She is survived by her son, Drew Campbell and her daughter, Jenny Shirley (Kent), both of Kannapolis, her 3 grandchildren; Brandon and wife, Anna Lacey, Chandler Shirley and Stephen Campbell. She is also survived by her younger brothers and sister; William "Buddy" Tyner of Concord, Carolyn Jordan of Patrick SC, JD Tyner, Elaine McLaughlin and Rev. Johnny Tyner. The Campbell family wishes to express their gratitude to those who helped care for their mother, especially Shirley Shirley, for the love shown during this time.
