Obituary: Vivion "Jean" Plyler Mills, 80, of Kannapolis went to her Heavenly Home at her residence on Thursday, September 4, 2014 following a period of declining health. She was born July 26, 1934 in Chesterfield County, SC a daughter of the late Jim and Mary Aldridge Plyler. Jean was a member of Ben Avenue Free Will Baptist Church where she had served as church pianist, Sunday School teacher and children's church. She served as assistant cafeteria manager at Fred L. Wilson Elementary School retiring with 25 years of service. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Franklin Roosevelt Mills who died Nov. 23, 2013, a son, Linny Ted Mills who died October 22, 2005 and two grandchildren; Luke and Grace Mills. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jo Anne Mills Sechler of Kannapolis, two sons; Jeffrey Ray Mills and Fiancé Linda Gentry of Marshville and Craig Mills and wife Suzanne of Monroe, sister, Beth Casey and husband Frank of Charlotte, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Ben Avenue Free Will Baptist Church conducted Rev. Don Draughn and Rev. Ronnie Cooper. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
