Obituary: W. Clark Gardner, Sr. 90, of Kannapolis passed away on August 9, 2013 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born October 4, 1922 in Richmond County, the son of the late Walter Wardlow Gardner and Viola Wright Gardner. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Belk Gardner. He owned/operated Clark's Barber Shop in Enochville and Kannapolis for over 45 years. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WW II with the 465th Engineer Dept. Company from 1943-45 serving in the European Theater. He was a graduate of Lees-McCrae College, Banner Elk, NC. He was a charter member of Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday school superintendent, head usher and served on various church boards. Clark was a master slingshot maker in the community. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Cannon Daniels Gardner, a son, W. Clark Gardner, Jr (Debbie). of Morganton, two daughters, Cathy Gardner Houck (Mick) of Mooresville, Gwynn Gardner McCombs Goodman (Alan) of Davidson, three step daughters; Laura Daniels Keever (Tom) of Greensboro, Georganne Daniels McDaniel (Keith) of Southern Pines, Elizabeth Daniels Harrison of Salisbury, grandchildren, Josh and Zac McCombs and Seth Gardner, step grandchildren; John and Phillip Keever, Brandon McDaniel, Christopher Prince, 5 great grandchildren, his sister, Jimmie Beltran of Las Vegas, NV., and his brother, Jerry Gardner of Kannapolis. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Jim Brookshire. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors by the Cabarrus Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 PM prior at Whitley's.
