Obituary: Christy, Walter Lee (JR)Concord, NC- Walter Lee Christy, age 70, died unexpectedly Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Concord Place Assisted Living, Concord, NC.He was born October 6, 1940 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Walter Elmore Christy and Roxie Lee Arthurs Christy.JR was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt .#1 #6 Weave Room for many years until his retirement due to disability in 1967. He attended Gilwood Presbyterian Church, Concord, NC but was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had attended for many years. His family fondly remembers his love of traveling and eating out with family and friends. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by Mary Bell Christy, Goldie Rodgers, Cletus Christy, Frank Christy, and Otto Christy. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, August 5, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Alan Buckner. Burial will follow at Kannapolis Cemetery, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.Survivors include his sisters and brothers, Annie Christy Long & husband, Bill of Rockwell, NC, Ray Christy & wife, Betty of Kannapolis, NC, Steven Christy & wife, Rachel of Concord, NC, Paul Christy of Kannapolis, NC, and David Leonard Christy & wife, Gloria of Kannapolis, NC; a sister-in-law, Johnsie Christy of Mt. Pleasant, NC; a brother-in-law, Edward Rodgers of Fayetteville, NC; a dear friend, Virginia Potts of Concord, NC; and numerous nieces & nephews.
