Obituary: Walter Gipson Rumple Jr., 93, of Kannapolis went to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 4, 2018. He was born June 25, 1924 in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Walter Gipson Rumple, Sr. and Ila Overcash Rumple. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Lee Rumple, two sisters, Beulah Irene Rumple and Mabel Rumple Blume and one brother, J. Lee Rumple. Gip graduated from Odell School and NC State with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the 15th Air Force 416 Squadron Bomb Groups as a flight engineer on a B-17. He was employed by Cannon Mills as Assistant Chief Engineer. Gip was also a lifelong member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and chairman of several church building committees. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 at Bethpage Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Ellen Campbell Gardner. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 PM prior in the church fellowship hall. He is survived by a son, Walter Gipson Rumple III and wife, Kathy Goodnight Rumple, daughter, Lee Ellen Brock and husband, Darol Brock, grandchildren, Walter Gipson Rumple IV, Jenilee Hope Kennedy and husband Mark, Seth Walker Brock and wife, Traci, 5 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Julia, Heidi, Kate and Sam.
